During my first week at the Demonstration School of Lampang Rajabhat University, our primary task was to observe the classroom. On my first day, we were introduced to the kindergarten department. I was assigned to observe the Foundational English Program (FEP) class, supervised by Teacher Emma.
Upon observing Teacher Emma’s teaching strategies, I was impressed by her extensive use of instructional materials. She featured visual aids such as flashcards with key vocabulary and a large board where the students can engage and manipulate the material directly. Additionally, she utilized a variety of books that sparked the interest of her learners. Teacher Emma also integrated technology into her lesson, using educational videos and other digital resources to enhance student participation.
Since I was under Teacher Emma’s supervision in the FEP, I also had the chance to observe other classrooms and kindergarten levels. Every Wednesday, she would teach basic English for half an hour, which gave me a glimpse into different classroom dynamics and allowed me to meet other teachers and students.
Overall, what I learned the most from observing my Teacher was that everything that she prepared for the students was mostly exposing the students to hands-on experiences, which are effective in fostering a deeper understanding of the lesson and will help the students to remember.
With this, it is essential to give accessible materials in advance for students to facilitate their engagement in learning activities and enable them to manipulate or work on the materials to provide them with meaningful learning experiences.
